Tisha B’Av: Texts of Destruction, Voices of Hope

The Menachem Begin Heritage Center and the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies present a day of learning, memory, and meaning centered on the themes of Tisha B’Av. Faculty members will lead sessions exploring biblical and Talmudic texts, transitioning from traditional narratives of tragedy to messages of hope. Scheduled sessions include: - Yael Ziegler: Lamentations: The Poetics of National Tragedy - Rabbi Alex Israel: Book Burning, Book Reading: From Jeremiah to the Maharam and Back - Rabbi Zvi Hirschfield: From Prophecy to Interpretation: Finding Hope in the Book of Eicha - Rabbi Elhanan Miller: Jews and Power: A New Look at Talmudic Legends - Aviva Wapner: Remembrance & Renewal: Rabbinic Responses to Tragedy The event is held in memory of Pardes teachers, students, and loved ones lost in war and terror. The program concludes with a screening of the documentary "Xueta Island," which follows the descendants of Mallorca’s forced Jewish converts and their journey of identity and reconnection with their heritage, followed by a panel discussion. Admission is 60 NIS for the general public, 40 NIS for students, and 80 NIS at the door.
