Gush Etzion and its new sites

Guided by Aryeh Routtenberg, this day trip follows the history and landscape of Gush Etzion, from Saddle Hill to Rosh Tzurim. At Saddle Hill (Ukaf Hamuchtar), the route takes in views from the summit, the site of two key battles in May 1948, and a recently founded neighborhood of Kfar Etzion. The visit also includes a new farm on the hill’s western slope.

In the area of Massuot Yitzchak, founded here eighty-one years ago, the walk passes a few remains of the kibbutz and visits a spring, then continues to the two defense outposts, Givat Olga and Givat Jum-Jum.

The day concludes with a short walk to the small spring that served as a water source for Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim, a visit to its new neighborhoods, and a view from a lookout overlooking the recently renovated Path of the Patriarchs. Travel is by private vehicle. Bring water and food for the entire day; Bibles are also recommended.
