On the eve of World War II, Dr. Karl Schwarz, the first director of the Tel Aviv Museum, embarked on a final, desperate journey to Europe. His mission was to rescue a specific work of art he had encountered during his youth in Berlin. After tracing the artwork to Amsterdam, he successfully persuaded its owner to send it to Tel Aviv. This painting, alongside thousands of other pieces saved by Schwarz between 1933 and 1945, formed the foundation of the museum's Modern Art Collection.

The current exhibition commemorates these efforts on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. It features a curated selection of works by prominent artists, including Alexander Archipenko, Marc Chagall, and Käthe Kollwitz, which serve to recount the dramatic stories behind their rescue and preservation.

This tour is conducted in English and is led by a museum guide. The number of participants is limited, and advance reservations are required for all attendees. Participation in the tour includes the entrance ticket to the museum.
