On the eve of World War II, Dr. Karl Schwarz, the first director of the museum, embarked on a final, desperate trip to Europe. His mission was to rescue a specific work of art he had encountered in his youth in Berlin. After tracing the artwork to Amsterdam, he successfully persuaded its owner to send it to Tel Aviv. This painting, alongside thousands of other pieces saved by Schwarz between 1933 and 1945, formed the nucleus of the institution's Modern Art Collection.

The exhibition marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II by recounting these historical rescue efforts. It features a curated selection of works by prominent artists, including Alexander Archipenko, Marc Chagall, and Käthe Kollwitz, highlighting the cultural significance of the collection's origins.

The tour is conducted in English and led by a museum guide. Participation in the tour includes an entrance ticket to the museum.
